Depending upon the ultrasound exam scheduled, you may need to prepare for your exam as follows:

Abdomen, Gallbladder, Liver, Kidney and Aorta Exams

It is important you do not eat or drink for eight hours prior to your exam. Food and liquid can prevent sound waves from being transmitted through your body.

Obstetrical (OB) and Pelvis Exams

It is important you begin drinking 32 ounces of liquid ninety minutes prior to your exam. It is important you consume the full 32 ounces of liquid 60 minutes prior to your exam time. A full bladder acts as a “window” and allows for better visualization of the area being imaged.
