Preparing For Your CT Cardiac Scoring Exam

Because your heart rate has to remain low during your CT Cardiac Scoring Exam, please avoid exercise, caffeine, chocolate, and smoking for the six hours prior to your exam. Please take all of your regular medications as usual and note that no additional medications or injections are necessary for this scan.

Women should inform CT technologists if there is any possibility that they are pregnant or are currently breastfeeding.

A CT Cardiac Scoring Exam is a fairly simple test. You will lie quietly in the scanner for less than ten minutes while it takes pictures of your heart, which will show if you have calcifications in your coronary arteries.

The images will be reviewed and interpreted by a radiologist. You will take the results to your doctor so he/she can recommend the appropriate treatment, if necessary.
